Frequently Asked Questions

When will WiFi Analyzer support 802.11ax?
From product management: We currently don't have an 802.11ax roadmap for AirMagnet WiFi Analyzer.  AirMagnet WiFi Analyzer is a packet and traffic analysis tool, and for it to be able to accurately analyze Wi-Fi 6 traffic it would need to use a native Wi-Fi 6 adapter. At this time there are no Wi-Fi 6 USB based adapters on the market. Still, if you're looking for an analysis tool with Wi-Fi 6 support you may want to consider the EtherScope nXG, which has a lot of the same Wi-Fi analysis functionality.

How many WiFi adapters can be used with WiFi Analyzer?
A maximum of 3 adapters can be used for captures.

On the Retry/Fragmented report is the number in the Retry column the number of frames retried or the percentage of frames retried?
The number in the Retry column is the number of retry frames.

On 802.11 RF Summary Report what is Cross Channel Interference reflecting? What does the value in the Cross Channel Interference column represent? Is it the number of devices, AP’s on the same channel or something else?
There are two sections in the report.  One shows Cross Channel Interference in dBm and the other section shows Cross Channel Interference as a percentage. It represents how much traffic from adjacent channels are interfering.

WiFi Analyzer starts and runs with no issue, and appears to be scanning channels but no results are shown. What could cause this?
Check that the correct driver is installed for the WiFi adapter being used. Steps to install are below.

What adapters can be used with WiFi Analyzer to detect or report noise?
Only the Proxim 8494 USB WiFi adapter will detect or report noise.
