LinkSprinter: Cable Test Option

The LinkSprinter Cable Test option provides basic length and can identify anomalies, such as shorts, opens, and split pairs. You can access this via the Mobile UI.

NOTE:  The LinkSprinter cannot perform a cable test on a cable that is connected to a switch. The LinkSprinter also does not perform cable certification.

Length:

The LinkSprinter can measure accurate length for cables of approximately 300 ft (100 m) or less, with an accuracy of plus or minus 6.56 ft (2 m). The LinkSprinter may be able to measure cables up to 500 ft (150 m) with relative accuracy. The minimum cable length is 2.6 ft (0.8 m) for an accurate cable test.

Length is shown for each pair. In some cases, one pair length might measure shorter or longer than another pair, due to the pair twist rates. It is not uncommon to see one pair with a different length for this reason. If you do see a difference, you can try a different cable from another manufacturer.

Fault Detection:
Fault detection is accurate to within a 2.6-ft (0.8 m) distance to the fault. This means that faults towards the end of a cable could still be seen as a "good" cable. For this reason, it might help to add a 10 foot cable (using a coupler) to the beginning and end of the cable to add length and get a better representation of the integrity of that cable.
